Club celebrates year of growth and success both on and off the court

HENLEY Squash Club is looking forward to another successful year both on and off the court.

Throughout 2025 the club ran a wide range of activities, including weekly open club nights, monthly internal leagues, competitive teams in the Oxfordshire and Berkshire County leagues, an internal handicap tournament and a thriving junior coaching programme. Club members also competed at county, national and European level, all representing Henley. At the start of the year Henley fielded two teams in the Oxfordshire County Squash Leagues and a veterans’ team in the Berkshire leagues.

During the summer and winter seasons, the club was able to increase this to three Oxfordshire league teams. This success was made possible by the dedication of team captains Harry Carr, Richard Little, John Williams, Peter Rivers and Steve Dance.

Individually, club member Jill Campion — a multiple World, European and British Masters champion — enjoyed another outstanding year, winning the 2025 European Masters Championship in Wroclaw, Poland, in August.

Closer to home, Peter Rivers won the club’s internal handicap tournament, narrowly defeating Richard Little in a five-game final. Ron Marsh won the plate competition, with James Mortimer and Alistair Robbie taking second and third place respectively.

The club’s popular Friday evening open club nights continued throughout the year, alongside monthly internal leagues where players were promoted or relegated based on performance. Weekly junior coaching sessions, run by Paul Nieduszynski and Adam Edge, focused on skill development and enjoyment of the sport, with additional introductory sessions held at Gillotts School.

Behind the scenes, club secretary Duncan Nightingale ensured league, tournament and team activities ran smoothly throughout the year.
