Classic car enthusiasts gather for annual show

DOZENS of classic and sports cars took part in a car show in Nuffield.

Despite downpours, motoring enthusiasts travelled to Timbers Farm for the 15th annual Stoke Row and Nuffield Motorsport Day last Sunday.

More than 50 people took part in the Maharajah’s Tour which was organised by the Craven Motor Club.

Drivers were served bacon rolls before the drivers left from the village green at 10am for the 60-mile countryside route. They experienced some difficulty during the route caused by wet weather.

The tour ended at the showground in Nuffield where Iain Rowley, who founded the event, interviewed participants at the finish.

There was no set entrance fee this year but organiser Georg Bleimschein said visitors made generous donations to support the event. The team from Friends of Stoke Row Primary School served refreshments including burgers, cakes, sandwiches and bacon butties while Pete Olley provided a bar facility and an ice cream van was on site to serve visitors.

Funds raised from the event will support the Thames Valley Air Ambulance, the Nuffield Community Project, Friends of Nuffield Church and Stoke Row Primary School.

Mr Bleimschein said: “Unfortunately rain before the event deterred a lot of visitors and despite some sunny spells in the afternoon, it was not as well attended as we had hoped. This is quite understandable as many of the Maharajah’s Tour and exhibition cars are open so clearly not ideal in rainy conditions.

“The Silverstone marshals and John Barrett did a sterling job manning the entrance to the event, marshalling cars and collecting donations.

“An award event at which proceeds from the event will be donated to the charities supported will be held later this year.”
