PROPOSALS contained in a petition from certain residents along the Fair Mile for the control of traffic were submitted at Tuesday’s meeting of Henley Town Council. The proposals called for 40mph signs on the Bix side of the entrance to Fair Mile Estate, an island in the carriageway opposite the cart track between Mile Edge and Nuffield, together with roundabout signs on each approach, and for the 30mph signs to be mounted on a yellow ground and adequately illuminated.

Built by the firm of A E Nunn, of Friday Street, Henley, the new extension at the Thamesfield Residential Centre in Wargrave Road is having its finishing touches added to the building. Work on the three-storey extension began in early 1964 and the accommodation comprises 16 study bedrooms together with several bathrooms.

Dr John M Couchman, of Stud Farm, Skirmett, has been elected a member of the Royal Society of Health, the largest society of its kind in the world with a membership of nearly 32,000.
