IT will be a golden day for Henley — with a chance for everyone to give our Olympic rowing heroes the welcome home that they deserve. The Standard’s suggestion for a row past has been taken up by the town council in conjunction with Leander Club. And what promised to be one of the biggest celebrations in the town’s history will take place on Saturday, October 28.

Mystery lights in the sky to the south of Henley were puzzling residents in the town and surrounding areas this week. The lights appeared in the early hours of Wednesday, apparently over Caversham but clearly visible from Henley. Mother of two Mrs Margaret Lale, of Henley, called in to the Standard office to say she saw the shafts of white light.
