FIREWORKS with the power of military explosives — capable of killing people and destroying buildings — have been stolen from a farm in Shiplake. The fireworks, worth £40,000, were stolen sometime between Friday and Saturday. Jack Burbage, owner of Starfield Fireworks, was storing the deadly rockets in special containers before selling them to professional organisers for Bonfire Night.

As part of the Olympic celebrations the River & Rowing Museum is giving free admission all day. Centre stage is an updated version of its Golden Oars exhibition tracing Britain’s rowing achievements from 1986 to Sydney 2000. There is also a section dedicated to Steve Redgrave since his first Olympic gold in 1984.
