THE River Thames broke its banks in Henley this week, bringing flood levels close to records set in 1990 — and it is still rising. The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning and believes levels could still rise by another two to three inches. The River & Rowing Museum, which was built on stilts, had them tested on Wednesday as water rushed under the building and into the car park.

Petrol supplies in the area were still inconsistent this week despite government reassurances. The Esso garage in Henley was completely out of petrol on Wednesday afternoon. Meanwhile, at the Henley Self Service garage in the same stretch of road, forecourt manager Tony Stevens said: “We are very busy.”
