WARGRAVE Tennis Club has announced plans to build a second padel tennis court and extend its clubhouse.
This follows the club’s annual meeting, which saw 85 per cent of its members show support for the move.
Chairman Michael Simpson said the new court was needed to support the game’s popularity having seen a 40 per cent rise in use of the existing court since last year.
He said the clubhouse extension is needed to accommodate new members, having seen a 60 per cent rise in the last four years.
Mr Simpson hopes that with the parish council’s support, the work could be completed in the next 12 to 18 months.
He said: “The original clubhouse was built in 2009 and, since then, our membership has almost doubled.
“Our membership this year has grown to just under 500 so we need more space for our members both young and old.
“The second padel court will facilitate the growing popularity of the game and will allow us to run social and coaching sessions.
“More than half of our members are playing the game and nearly 90 per cent of members think the first court has added value to the club.”
