Big count

BENSON Nature Group is encouraging people to spend 15 minutes counting butterflies and moths in their garden or St Helen’s churchyard as part of a national initiative.

The nationwide Big Butterfly Count has been organised by Butterfly Conservation UK, which has declared a “butterfly emergency”.

Butterflies have been in decline in the UK since the Seventies due to habitat losses.

Launched in 2010, the count is the world’s biggest survey of butterflies.
