Pupils deliver donation bags to food bank

CHILDREN at Rupert House School have delivered about 100 bags and boxes of food and home supplies to the Henley food bank.

The year 6 pupils walked from the independent school in Bell Street to the d:two centre in Market Place, where the food bank is based, with the goods, which were donated by children’s families. The pupils were welcomed by staff from Nomad, the youth and community project which runs the food bank, and visited the sorting room.

The school’s harvest service at St Mary’s Church on Friday was attended by Jaco Bruwer, a Nomad worker who thanked the families for their generosity. He said the school provided the largest number of items each year and explained that the demand from local families had gone up 30 per cent in the past year.

The school will donate half of its retirement collection at the service to Nomad and the other half to the church.
