New head to empower students

DR Sarah Tullis is preparing to lead The Abbey School into its next exciting chapter, bringing with her a vision of academic excellence, independence and happiness.

Sarah, who will take up the role in September, believes in empowering students through curiosity and joy. “We’re a high-achieving school, but it’s not just the results that count — it’s the way we get there.

“At The Abbey, students are encouraged to explore, think for themselves, and develop real resilience.” Sarah is passionate about the all-girls education model, having attended an independent girls’ school herself. She said: “When girls are in an environment designed for them, they develop confidence, independence, and a strong sense of self. The Abbey fosters exactly that.”

Her experience includes a PhD in medieval history from Oxford, leadership roles at Wycombe Abbey, and a passion for educational innovation. She is committed to ensuring that The Abbey continues to evolve, giving students the skills they need for the future.

Sarah added: “The world is changing rapidly, and our students need to be adaptable, confident, and equipped to thrive in any career path they choose.” Sarah is also deeply committed to ensuring that students have autonomy over their education, and she values listening to student voices to shape the school experience.

As The Abbey moves forward under Sarah’s leadership, students, staff, and parents can look forward to a school that is ambitious, nurturing, and future-focused.
