ON a sunny Sunday afternoon we were welcomed by Gloria and her team at the Black Boys Inn at Hurley (just outside Henley).
With origins in part dating back to the 16th century, the inn is full of atmosphere and charm.
Oak beams, nooks, crannies and a wood-burning stove welcome guests and act as a reminder of the inn’s heritage.
Meanwhile, the modern facilities and contemporary country feel provide a luxurious haven, with most tables taken up with couples and families enjoying their Sunday lunch. The menu was fabulous and offered starters including scallops, baked Camembert, and a seafood platter for two.
The main menu was equally delicious, offering everything from 28-day-aged premium ribeye or sirloin steaks to grilled seabass. A full Sunday lunch was also available.
I had the Camembert as my starter, which was presented on a wooden platter together with rustic garlic bread pieces accompanied by a redcurrant sauce.
For our main we had the traditional Sunday roast with tender beef accompanied by a variety of fresh vegetables and a scrumptious extremely large Yorkshire pudding.
My companion enjoyed the Sunday roast of tender roast chicken with all the trimmings.
This is a wonderful venue for a family dining experience, a great night out with friends or a romantic weekend for two, and we will most certainly be returning soon.
