Hurricanes suffer heavy loss against league leaders

AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U15s found themselves on the wrong side of an 8-2 scoreline at home to East Berks Alliance League table-topping GODALMING TOWN U15s on the new 3G pitch at Jubilee Park last Saturday.

The Hurricanes’ first half performance was good as they passed the ball well in midfield and attack. There were scoring opportunities for Nicholas Hernandez St Clair, Rupert Hepburn, Charlie Dix and Gabriel Robbins-Cherry.

Godalming took the lead on 10 minutes with a shot from the edge of the box. The game was evenly matched until two lapses saw Godalming triple their lead in two minutes.

Dix pulled a goal back through a sweetly struck free kick which looped over defence and keeper and nestled into the top of the net. Godalming added to their total from a corner within minutes of the restart. A strong run down the right from Robbins-Cherry and a cross into the box found Adam Hanley who lashed the ball home. Despite an opportunity for Hepburn and a long-range shot from Dominic Ellis, Godalming dominated the second half.

AFC HENLEY GIRLS U15s went back to the top of the table with a 5-1 win at ASHRIDGE PARK ROYALS U15s.

Henley got off to a good start with Isabella Lloyd beating a couple of players on the right-hand side and getting off a left-footed shot from 20 yards to put the visitors ahead.

The rest of the first half was a turgid affair with Henley unable to get their passing game together and continually running into determined opponents.

Henley created plenty of first half chances but mainly through attrition rather than quality.

The second half commenced much as the first half ended as Ashridge Park Royals equalised with a goal on the break.

Shortly after the equaliser, a fine run down the right saw Sofia Rose-Gallagher put in a dangerous cross which the otherwise excellent Ashridge keeper spilled and Romy Draper was in the right place to finish at the near post.

This was quickly followed with a goal from the edge of the penalty area from midfielder Abigail Palmer, the standout player of the day.

Good pressure from Izzy Coleman saw Ava Douglas burst through to score with an assured finish and the same player repeated the trick three minutes later.
