MORE than 200 people attended a dinner dance at Henley Rugby Club’s new-look clubhouse.
The Henley Ball featured a champagne reception and a three-course meal followed by dancing in a marquee.
The caterer was 81 Events and the music was provided by funk rock band Junior Guevarra who are fronted by Jayson Jaurigue, of Henley music agency Eight Ray Music.
The clubhouse was decorated by event planners Queenie and Belles.
Guests included Henley Mayor Julian Brookes and Deputy Mayor Will Hamilton.
Club chairman Mike Trethewey said: “We used to run the Star Ball but we had trouble making up the numbers so it stopped.
“This was our first attempt at holding a black-tie event at the new clubhouse to see if we could recreate that atmosphere. One of the reasons for upgrading the clubhouse was to give ourselves another income stream and see what level of audience we could attract.”
The £475,000 refurbishment, which included a new kitchen and a bar extension, was the first phase of a four-year redevelopment. The second phase, which will cost £300,000, will be to add a changing room block.
