Boundary of protected area set to be reviewed

A REVIEW of the conservation area in Whitchurch is being carried out.

It seeks to provide a comprehensive assessment of the character and special historic interest of the conservation area.

A document has been produced by South Oxfordshire District Council and Asset Heritage Consulting on behalf of the parish council to aid the review.

This details a number of proposed changes to the conservation area boundary, including the addition of land on Hardwick Road to include a historic avenue of trees, the removal of the modern dwelling at Old Gardens and corrections of the boundary to reflect property boundaries at Eastfield House, Pluto and Chiltern Edge.

Once the draft is adopted, it will act as a framework that will guide future development in the conservation area.

Property and land in the conservation area is covered by extra planning controls which help to protect the setting and provide a guard against inappropriate work.

Most demolition works will require planning permission, there are restrictions on permitted development and advertising, and trees are also better protected.

Hard copies of the document are available in the village hall, which will be open solely for this purpose.

The hall will be open from 11am to 1pm from Monday to Thursday, from Monday, September 15 to Wednesday, October 8.

The appraisal, which opened on September 10, closes on October 8.
