SOMETIMES you find a hidden gem of an establishment, that is full of character, vast selections of quality product and general yumminess.
The Granary Deli, Watlington is such a place, which one would frequent for the largest range of locally produced and further afield elite cheese. And not only that, but for an amazing array of chutneys, olives, accompaniments and delicious wines and treats.
Robin and the team have extensive knowledge of their field and are incredibly personable and informative. They can advise as to the perfect pairing, and choices for a picnic — fabulous hampers available too.
They also produce incredible cheese celebration cakes, all alongside running a very successful monthly cheese subscription club.
We were lucky enough to sample a few of the cheeses recommended: a Gorwydd Caerphilly, fresh and fruity, Creamy Granary favourite Delice de Bourgogne, the deliciously alpine flower-covered Bavarian Alp Blossom and the Baron Bigod –—the most melt in the mouth brie I have ever tasted.
A very special chilli jam, fig and honey, fine crackers and rustic, beautifully constructed sourdough complemented the cheese beautifully.
We also tried some locally produced dry, crisp wine to cut through the rich cheeses so perfectly.
The Granary has something for everyone — the perfect place for a trip to stock up on the best cheeses, treats for the weekend or the perfect dinner party.
It is impossible to not fill your basket with an array of delectable items, and I shall certainly be back very soon.
