AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U15s lost out 3-1 at CAVERSHAM JAGUARS U15s in their East Berks League clash in a close encounter.
The artificial surface at Rivermead was bouncy and the falling rain meant that the ball moved quickly and set the tempo for a fast-paced game.
This was an even contest between the two teams, with the Jaguars perhaps creating slightly more opportunities, but the Hurricanes were lively too and kept them on their toes.
It was the Jaguars who went ahead after 30 minutes through a well-struck shot from the right.
The Hurricanes stepped up their work rate after the break and created several opportunities from good passing moves, one of which was headed home by Oscar Robinson at the back post to level the scores.
Henley pressed for more but both Robinson and Nicholas Hernandez St Clair saw their shots hit the woodwork.
With 20 minutes remaining, the Jaguars went ahead again. They won the ball from a drop ball re-start in the middle of the pitch and moved it smartly to score. Soon after they added a similar third, also starting from a dropped ball, and there was no way back.
The Hurricanes’ men of the match were Luca Currie for an determined performance at right back, and Gabriel Robbins-Cherry for a robust performance in attack.
AFC HENLEY GIRLS U15s moved back to the top of the table with an impressive 3-1 win against CAVERSHAM SWANS U15s with goals from Ava Turner (two) and Sofia Rose-Gallagher.
