EMMER Green bowed out of the Berks and Bucks Sunday Cup in the third round after a competitive and hard-fought battle against Give Back, who edged the tie by the narrowest of margins.
The home side started brightly and created the better chances throughout the first half. Their forward play caused problems, and the pressure almost paid off when Charlie Cooper burst into the box and appeared to have been brought down but the referee waved play on.
Despite Emmer Green’s strong start, it was Give Back who struck first, converting one of their few clear chances and taking a 1-0 lead into half-time. The second half saw Give Back come out aggressively, pushing hard to extend their advantage, but the Emmer Green defence stood firm.
As the clock ticked down, Emmer Green pushed bodies forward, battling relentlessly for the equaliser that would have taken them to a penalty shoot-out.
Wave after wave of pressure followed, but the ball just wouldn’t fall their way, and Give Back held out to secure their place in the quarter-finals.
