THE wet weather once again forced many of last Saturday’s league and cup fixtures to be postponed.
Of the matches played, GORING UNITED battled to a well-earned 3-1 Premier Division win against WOKINGHAM TOWN RESERVES in challenging conditions, with wind and heavy rain making play difficult throughout.
The deadlock was broken after 23 minutes when Chris Pocock reacted sharply inside the box, turning home after Rob Ellington flicked on a dangerous corner at the near post.
Goring continued to press and doubled their lead shortly before the break, as Josh Monk finished confidently from close range following great work from Sully Akers.
Five minutes into the second half, Goring extended their advantage when a perfectly delivered Matt Hayden corner found Monk, who leapt highest to head home the fullback’s second of the match.
Wokingham pulled one back in the 55th minute, but Goring remained strong defensively and continued to create chances, to see out the win.
In Division 1, ROTHERFIELD UNITED ran out 2-0 winners at FLEET SPURS. Harry Green put the visitors ahead in the first half before William Beville doubled the scoring in the second half.
In Reserve Division 1, HENLEY TOWN DEVELOPMENT came from a goal down to run out 3-1 winners at WESTWOOD WANDERERS RESERVES.
The home side took the lead after 18 minutes but Henley hit back with three goals in the second half from Harry Taylor, Luke Mulvaney and Oscar Wiseman to secure all three points.
In Division 3, GORING UNITED RESERVES picked up a point from 1-1 draw at FARNHAM COMMMON UNITED. In the League Cup, WARGRAVE eased through to the next round with a 13-1 thumping of WESTWOOD WANDERERS DEVELOPMENT.
The hosts started well and scored within a minute when Teddy Thomas cut a ball back for Callum Brighton to strike home. Teddy Thomas added the second shortly after before Alex Woodhead scored from 35 yards to make it 3-0.
Thomas added his second rounding the goalkeeper before Brighton added his second finishing from close range. Westwood hit back scoring a free kick through Matthew Evans to make it 5-1 after 30 minutes.
Wargrave made it 6-1 with a Fred Kirby goal before captain Brighton completed his hat-trick form midfield.
The second half was more of the same as Wargrave made it 8-1 early on when Thomas completed his hat-trick before making five changes.
Harri Douglas came on and scored directly from a corner before Kirby added his second of the match.
Joseph Danelian also scored two with a solo effort from Zak Colvin sandwiched between his goals.
